Thank you to all of you that made sell-out concert at York's Historic Bedern Hall a roaring success! The atmosphere was amazing and it was a pleasure to play for such attentive and curious listening ears.
As a DIY musician it was such a joy to have all the hard work come together and to be able to put on a fantastic night. With the help of my partner in all-things-graphic-design, Bobby Alexandrova, we had managed to do all of the promotion, organise the venue, and get people excited to come to the gig. People travelled from far and wide to come and see me, and accompanist Paul Sparks play a double set, and the feedback was overwhelming.
Usually there is always the balance act of the type of music I write not quite fitting in to any one particular genre (this has often made the new material hard to place for some promoters), whereas because I made this concert from scratch I was able to be more experimental in my set. It was a great opportunity for me to play two (mostly) instrumental pieces on hammered dulcimer - "I Know that You Hate Minimalism (but my love for you is anything but minimal)" alongside the premier of "Song for Stella". I am very excited to record these pieces soon, and bring out an EP of Hammered dulcimer pieces. I also had the fantastic opportunity to collaborate with sound engineer and up-and-coming producer Lynette Quek. Lynette's sensitivity and attention to detail when it comes to honouring the timbre and textures of each instrument (Bulgarian tamboura, Appalachian Dulcimer, Renaissance lute, for example) is outstanding. Lynette is not only very talented, but is calm in the face of the most quotidian concert crises. Lynette also recorded the performance live, alongside the ambience of the room! We are thinking about pressing the full concert into vinyl, but until then I've uploaded a few excerpts onto soundcloud

We had only worked with Lynette once previously which was an afternoon recording in the studio to make the live EP "Making Ground As We Go". I quickly pressed the EP and designed and handmade the cases using ink and eco-friendly card - these quickly sold out on the night!
There are a few limited edition CDs available for purchase, and the EP is also available to buy as a digital download click here
Here is a little Bedern Hall concert snippet on video "It's Not Beautiful" (Appalachian dulcimer and guitar).
