I am very happy to announce a new collaboration with sound engineer and producer Lynette Quek.
I first stumbled across Lynette's work for her sound engineering for the live recordings she creates for the Late Music Concerts in York (an eclectic monthly concert showcasing late and contemporary music). Lynette is currently undergoing a Masters of Arts in Music Production at The University of York, U.K. She also holds the Vinson Concert Recording Assistantship at the university. So far our collaborative efforts have resulted in a sell out concert at Bedern Hall, May 29, 2016, for which Lynette received a notable mention in a review by Andrew Bogie published in York Arts and Culture Magazine York Calling. Lynette provided stellar sound engineering on the evening, working not only with the acoustics of the hall, but in such a way that honoured the textures and timbres of the myriad of stringed instruments (Bulgarian tamboura, hammered dulcimer, Appalachian dulcimer, renaissance lutes - to name a few!). Lynette also made a live recording of the concert, and I've made a few excerpts available on soundcloud:
Lynette also recorded, mixed and mastered, my live E.P. "Making Ground As We Go", which is available as a limited edition hand pressed CD or Digital download.

I've had a couple of recording sessions in the studio with Lynette (and accompanist Paul Sparks) - she is extraordinarily patient and calm, and has very sensitive ears. It has been my first studio sessions recording alongside Paul, and I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs sound production or live sound engineering. In our recent studio session my song Done For (originally written for Ukulele and guitar) has also received the Lynette Quek treatment in this electronic remix
To compare with the sparse original of Done For (music and lyrics by Izzy Isgate) here's a live version recorded on a tascam (Izzy Isgate Ukulele and vocals, accompanied by Paul Sparks on guitar).
I am very excited about working with Lynette, in particular to explore the opportunity to record some of my songs on hammered dulcimer, with a view to bringing out an EP of hammered dulcimer pieces. In our next studio session I would like to record this instrumental of "I know that you hate Minimalism (but my love for you is anything but minimal)", alongside some new material I am currently working on. And, who knows? I'm sure Lynette can create some interesting remixes and electronic pieces from my hammered tones!
